Common access situations
- Steep or curved driveways where a large truck cannot safely enter
- Long external stairways down to harbour or waterfront homes
- Narrow terrace streets with no room to stop and tight internal staircases
- Battle-axe blocks with a long shared driveway
- Homes with no vehicle access at all from the street
How a good removalist plans for it
- A site visit or video walk-through before quoting
- A smaller truck, or a shuttle between a large truck and the house
- An extra mover on long carries so the job keeps moving
- Hoisting or rigging for items that cannot go up a staircase
- Floor, step and banister protection planned in advance
How to describe access for an accurate quote
- Photograph the approach from the street to the front door.
- Count the steps and note any tight turns.
- Measure the driveway width and note how steep it is.
- Note where a truck could legally park and how far that is from the door.
