Put every quote on one line
For each company, write down:
- Crew size and hourly rate (including GST)
- Minimum hours
- How travel is charged (depot to depot, or a flat travel fee)
- Call-out fee, if any
- Their estimate of hours for your move
- Known extras: stairs, piano, materials, tolls
Calculate an estimated total
Estimated total = rate × the greater of (estimated hours + travel) and the minimum, plus fees and extras. If one company will not estimate hours, use the longest estimate you have been given for theirs. A company that cannot estimate your move has not understood it.
Check what is inside the number
- Is disassembly and reassembly of furniture included?
- Are blankets, wrapping and wardrobe boxes included or charged?
- Is the rate fixed in writing?
- Is insurance for goods in transit included?
Before you accept a quote
- Inventory on the quote matches your home, including the garage
- Access at both ends described (stairs, lift, parking)
- Rate and crew written down
- Estimate of hours written down
- All fees listed, with nothing left in the terms
